Upload Multiple Files fails without error

February 8, 2011

The Symptom:

You try to upload files to a SharePoint Document Library using the “Upload Multiple Files” option. Select all the files that you want to upload using the check boxes and click OK.
The upload starts, the progress bar progresses, reaches 100% without error then the upload dialog closes and the browser redirects to the document library. All seem fine, the only problem is that the files are not uploaded.

The Solution:

The default IIS limit for the upload file size is 30MB. If the selected files are larger than 30MB, the files are not uploaded and there is no error message either. This limit can be set in the Web Application’s web.config file. Just add or modify the following section in your web.config :

<system.webServer>
  <security>
    <requestFiltering>
      <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="2147483648"/>
    </requestFiltering>
  </security>

</system.webServer>

The value 2147483648 is 2GB. Change it as you need.
