Feature stapling to SharePoint site template (stp)

August 9, 2011

MSDN states that site templates build upon site definitions and extend the site definitions. It sounds logical that if you staple your feature to the GLOBAL site definition (which means stapling to all site definition) and then create a site using a custom site template (.stp file) that is eventually based on a site definition then a feature that is stapled to the GLOBAL will activate on the new site.

This is however not the case. The stapled feature won’t activate.

You cannot use feature stapling for sites that you create using stp site templates.
