The operation could not be completed because the item was removed from the gallery.

You can receive this error when you try to add a web part to a page.
Contrary to the error message the .webpart file exists in the Web Part Gallery. The problem is that SharePoint can’t find the assembly that is used by the web part.

Make sure, that the web part’s assembly is in the GAC (you will need an iisreset after adding it manually).

This error often pops up when you develop web parts using Visual Studio and just press F5 to try them. VS deploys the web part but after the debugging is stopped it automatically retracts the solution leaving the .webpart file in the gallery. Then when you try to add the web part, you get this error
